Massage Therapy

What to expect?

Before your first treatment a full consultation will take place where I will ask you a series of questions to get some background information. I will explain about the treatment and how this will help you.

 

As a professional and fully-qualified massage therapist, before a treatment takes place I will explain what I will be doing and you will be asked to remove outer clothing and shoes depending on the area or areas of the body being worked on. At all times your body will be covered either by a sarong and or towel and the only exposed area being worked on.

Sports Massage

 

Sports Massage is the manipulation of the bodies soft tissues, techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows and forearms. The purpose of the massage is to treat the body for stress or pain. The application of this treatment prior to and after exercise may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

 

Benefits of a sports massage treatment include the following,

 

  • Relieves repetitive strain injuries

  • Helps with muscular and joint injuries such as sprains and strains

  • Relieve headaches

  • Can increase range of motion

  • Increase sense of well being

  • Improve sleep patterns

Fire Cupping Therapy

 

Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy where a glass cup is applied to the skin, these cups draw the skin, superficial muscles and facia inside the cup. This treatment is known to help activate the lymphatic system which promotes blood circulation therefore it is good for deep tissue repair.

 

Benefits of fire cupping therapy include the following,

 

  • Muscular aches and pains

  • Joint inflammation and pain

  • Sports injuries

  • Hypertension

  • Restlessness/Insomnia

  • Sciatica

  • Poor circulation

Swedish Body Massage

Swedish Massage is a treatment that involves manipulation and stimulation of muscles using a variety of techniques such as kneading, compression, friction and percussion. It is performed using carrier oils, which are either sweet almond, grape seed . I also have some pre blended Neals Yard aromatherapy oils which can be added.

Swedish massage has many benefits on the body, it effects everyone in different ways. Benefits to regular Massage treatments may include the following,

  • Stress relief and relaxation of the body and mind

  • Increased energy levels

  • Relief from muscular tension

  • Elevation of mood

  • Improved sleep pattern

  • Calm, peace and tranquillity

  • Improves digestion

Trigger Point & Neuromuscular Massage

Normally combined with a Swedish massage treatment, normally used when clients have very tight muscles or knots. This is normally a sensitive part of the body when over stimulated, commonly found in the upper back and shoulders.

The knot is located and pressed for a number of seconds, then the pressure is released. This can be repeated several times if needed to help to disperse the fluid under the muscle which has created the knot. Can help to increase a range in movement.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage can be performed either in a low backed chair, on a therapy couch or half in a chair and half on the couch. This treatment includes techniques carried out on the shoulders, arms, hands and upper back as well as head and face. A number of different carrier oils can be used. Neals Yard Organic Coconut Oil is a particular popular oil for the skin and a Neals Yard Rosemary and Cedar wood hair treatment. Other Oils and hair treatments are available included within the price. The benefits of Indian Head Massage:

Seated Massage

Seated massage is carried out over clothes focusing on a selection of 12 acupressure points on the body. It is aimed at releasing any tension in the upper back and shoulder areas, it can feel very relaxing and you will walk away feeling energised. The effect of seated massage:

  • Releases tension including neck and shoulder pain/aches

  • Improves circulation

  • Improves focus and concentration

  • Increases energy

  • Strengthen immune system

  • Creates a sense of well being

  • Reduces stress and anxiety

This treatment is offered either in my therapy room or as a mobile treatment at events, in a corporate office environment and at exhibitions.

Aftercare Advice

In order to gain the maximum benefit from any of the massage treatments I offer it is advisable to follow the steps below.

  • Drink plenty of water, this will help to flush out the toxins, massage aids the removal of toxins from the body.

  • Do not drink alcohol 24 hours after your massage or 12 hours before it is counter productive as you are putting toxins back into your body.

  • Avoid a heavy meal after your treatment as your body of working hard to excrete all the toxins. A light meal is recommended.

  • Avoid caffeine as your body of working hard to excrete all the toxins.

  • Do not use sun beds following any use of massage oils or strong sunlight.

  • Be aware of your posture

  • And most important – REST this will help to assist the healing process.
